IN an effort to support local markets and produces amidst the pandemic, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a new public market in Barangay Poblacion, Burgos, La Union.
Based on a report from DPWH La Union Second District Engineering Office (DEO), DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that a three-storey Burgos Public Market was completed within 210 days to provide local residents with better facilities for the selling and buying of essential goods.
The project involves construction of a public market building complete with plumbing, sanitary, and electrical works for a total cost of P9.6-million funded under the 2019 Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Fund.
DPWH La Union Second District Engineering Gil Lorenzo also noted that the building is built with persons with disability(PWD)-friendly ramps to allow easy access for everyone.
“We are hopeful that this building will host a consumer-friendly center for trade and commerce to support the local economy that has been affected by the quarantine protocols placed due to the pandemic,” said Secretary Villar.
